Another free day!! Oh boy.
Woke up to the other lees clomping out to search for some morning grub. They marched back in with green onion pancakes, from just across the street! They were really good, crisp but not too oily, with a fragrant green onion flavor. |
Here's a picture of the "apartments" we're staying in! Pretty ghetto, but the location is amazing -- only a 1 or 2 minute walk from the station. |
With the world as our oyster, we decided to go..........back to Ximending. :p We didn't get much of a chance to look around last time, and we really liked it there. :) Here's a huge advertisement for the Hunger Games movie that you see when you exit the station. |
Ohhh I remember now!! We were looking for something for Kevin to do cuz he was bored of tagging along and watching us browse clothes, so we tried to find an arcade that's sposed to be near Ximending. Saw this cool little department store along the way. Couldn't stop though, too afraid Kevin would blow up. |
Walked into the wrong department store and ended up at an Eslite bookstore -- it's a chain of bookstores across Taiwan. Their stationery/gifts section is always full of cute stuff like these stickers. :) |
Didn't manage to find the actual arcade, but found this ghetto little arcade at the top floor of a cinema. We played this game where little monsters appear on the screen and you throw plastic balls at the screen and try to hit them.... |
Kevin and Michael also played assorted sports games, like making baskets, kicking a soccer ball as hard as you can, punching something as hard as you can (pictured above), etc. He actually got the high score for the soccer one! :) |
Stopped by a MOS burger for a snack and some wifi. I was so disappoint. :( The MOS burger was kind of ghetto and it really wasn't very good. Me&Kevin's burger was served with rice cake buns, and was kind of tasteless. Noooooo I had such good memories of Japan MOS burger. :( These ones don't have as good of a selection.... |
Found another arcade with the claw machines -- we love these things! :) Every time we see one we have to go in and try it hehe. This one was particularly hilarious though cuz the claw was super weak, and wouldnt pick anything up, so Michael jiggled the joystick back and forth to try to make the claw shake and knock one of the Cinnamoroll (sp) plushies down. It wassss kiiiind of hilarious! AND HE GOT IT! lol. |
Also stopped for a Mister Donut -- another Japanese chain that made its way to Taiwan. I got scolded for taking pics so there's only this one, but hopefully you can see how cute and perfect looking they all are. :D The brown ones near the front have little lion faces in them! The donut is the mane. :) So asian donuts are a little different from our donuts; they are doughy and chewy whereas ours tend to be more fluffy and airy. Theirs is more like cake or something. |
Got a bit bored of eating and shopping, so we headed to Zhongxiaoxinsheng station to go to the GuangHua Technology Market. It's like........it's basically a huge Fry's? Or Akihabara? All the gadgets, electronic devices, and related paraphernalia you could imagine.....I finally got my 2 to 3 prong adaptor so I can stop mooching off Michael for power for my netbook! (who is named Yuri btw) |
Just one small aisle with a bunch of headphones. |
Met up with mom/dad and they took us to another night market near their old university (Taiwan University, Taida). I think the name of the market is Gongguan? We picked up a bunch of these yummy yummy things....steamed buns (a la peking duck?), stuffed with braised pork, vegetables, dusted off with sweet peanut brittle flakes and some cilantro. SO. GOOD! |
Then some shopping along the street, where I buy even more random trinkets that I don't need but feel like I can't live without. :D Kevin and Michael get bored and wander off to get stinky tofu. When they came back into the cute trendy little store, both of the girls working there instantly looked up, exchanged looks, and looked back down. Yup. Even from a distance they smelled THAT bad. |
Did a bit more shopping, but it got kind of late so we headed home. Not a bad day. :) Pretty relaxing.
